Levelling Compound- Mira Termoplan is ideal for use with underfloor heating
Under certain circumstances the best way of installing our underfloor heating systems, requires you to cover the heating mats or cables with levelling compound. Floor coverings that require you to use levelling compound are non floating wooden floors, carpet and linoleum ( including amtico and other similar products).
When using levelling compound with underfloor heating it is important to find one that is suitable for use in this way. Hot Floors recommends the use on Mira Termoplan with our underfloor heating mats and cables. Mira is manufactured in Denmark, the home of underfloor heating, and is specifically designed for use with our heating systems.
Using levelling compound with underfloor heating is easy. Simply prime the sub floor with Mira 4180 primer and allow this to dry. Then install your heating mat / cable on the subfloor as normal. Once this is done, make up enough levelling compound to provide at least 8mm coverage of the entire heating system. Then pour the levelling compound, and distribute evenly. Allow 3 or 4 hours to dry before walking on the floor.
To calculate how many bags of levelling compound you require, simply take the depth of levelling compound required (at least 8mm), multiply this by 1.7. Then divide by 25 and then multiply by the floor area in square metres (sqm).
We also have a number of accessories for use with levelling compound:-
- Mira Planstop - A 30mm x 30mm x 2m foam barrier to control the flow of levelling compound. These can be used in doorways and to create an expansion gap around the room when pouring the levelling compound on to a wooden substrate.
- Mira Primer - Used to prime the substrate before pouring the levelling compound. This allows the levelling compound to have a strong bond with the substrate.
- Mira Base Cleaner - Used to provide a clean substrate before applying the primer. This is used when the substrate may have some oil or pollutants that will need removing before levelling compound is used.
- Mira Sponge - For washing down the floor area.
- Duct Tape - To prevent the levelling compound damaging skirting boards and walls.
